Medical Publishing Insights & Practices (MPIP) was founded by members of the pharmaceutical industry and the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP) to elevate trust, transparency, and integrity in reporting the results of industry-sponsored research. Current corporate co-sponsors include Amgen, AstraZeneca, Bayer, Biogen, Bristol-Myers Squibb, GlaxoSmithKline, Janssen Research & Development LLC, Merck, and Pfizer.
MPIP encourages more effective partnership between sponsors and journals to raise standards in medical publications and expand access to research results. Editors of worldwide biomedical journals have participated in MPIP activities, including representatives of Annals of Internal Medicine, Blood, BMJ, Canadian Medical Association Journal, European Respiratory Journal, Journal of the American Medical Association, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Nature Medicine, Neurology, The New England Journal of Medicine, and The Lancet.
Through independent research, industry–journal roundtables, and multidisciplinary collaboration, we have enhanced the understanding of issues and challenges in reporting the results of industry-sponsored research and developed tools to improve transparency and credibility. Our research results are disseminated through publications, education, and society meetings such as the Council for Science Editors (CSE), ISMPP, International Congress on Peer Review and Biomedical Publication, and the International Publication Planning Association (TIPPA), as well as through webcasts and webinars.
Medical Publishing Insights & Practices (MPIP) is funded by the following co-sponsors: Amgen, Bayer, Biogen, Bristol Myers Squibb, GlaxoSmithKline, Janssen Research & Development LLC, Merck, and Pfizer. Each co-sponsor is represented on the MPIP steering committee along with representation from the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals. The MPIP steering committee meets regularly to advance research, educational, and collaborative initiatives aligned with the MPIP mission. For external activities such as Roundtable meetings, all attendees pay their own travel and lodging expenses. MPIP does not pay honoraria to anyone who contributes to any MPIP initiative.
